PAWA Trekker, Zehan Albakri, sends the final despatch from the Great Wall of China, after she and her other PAWA team mates complete this tough 7 day hiking challenge that raises funds for girls’ education across Asia.

Zehan writes:

Highlight of the whole trek

I would say the best part of this trek was Day 4 when we had the most stunning far reaching views and we trekked on the unrestored part of the Great Wall.

I also enjoyed the group camaraderie which was special as we were all liked minded people fundraising for small personal charities.

Day 5: PAWA Great Wall of China Trek - the toughest day due to the steep climbs and number of steps

Day 5: PAWA Great Wall of China Trek – the toughest day due to the steep climbs and number of steps

Toughest part

The most challenging part of the trek was the steepness of the stairs  – for me especially, on Day 5 ,as I am not very good with heights and climbing down stairs is a challenge with my weak knee so am not very confident.

But we did it.  My knee held out – and my vertigo did not let me down.

We worked out that we covered 100,000 steps!

A very special experience

After completing this demanding seven day trek, I have learnt that I am capable of a lot more physically than I thought and surprised myself by what I had done, especially when I look back at the photos!

It was a very special experience and great to share it with Clare and Rahiyah – we had some tough moments but some great laughs as well !
